Indium/Matsushita, Sharp, Sony in China sales pitch for flat-screen TVs

Matsushita Electronic Industrial Co., Sharp Corp. and other Japanese electronics firms will step up sales activities in China for high-grade flat-screen television sets displaying high-definition images. They seek to quickly explore local demand for these advanced TVs, which is likely to flare up ahead of China's planned launch of high-definition TV broadcast by 2008, when the Beijing Olympic Games are held. They have already seen the boom for flat-screen, clear-image TV models in Japan this year. Next February, Matsushita will start producing and selling in China 42-inch plasma TVs equipped with hig-resolution panels. For the local production, the company will install a specialized facility inside its Shanghai factory to manufacture everything from panels to TV sets.
