Rosenbluth and Sagdeev in Trieste: The Birth of Modern Space Plasma Physics

I was present at the birth of modern space plasma physics. Plasma physics and space physics had grown up, side-by-side, in the Cold War, and their child, space plasma physics, was conceived in America and the Soviet Union and born in 1965-1966 at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in the Adriatic Port of Trieste, Italy, on the border with then Yugoslavia.
