China's sponge titanium capacity to breach 10,000tpy in 2005

China Titanium, Zirconium and Hafnium Association held the 2005 Annual Conference in Zunyi of Guizhou Province, August 6. Experts attending the conference believe that China's titanium industry is now developed rapidly with strong demand from aviation, iron and steel, chemical, electronic and other industries. The sponge titanium capacity is expected to breach 10,000tpy in 2005. Titanium industry upturned in 2004, with demand for titanium semis reaching 10,629 tonnes, up by 41.6 percent year-on-year. And the output of sponge titanium increased by 17 percent to 4.809 tonnes. Domestic demand for titanium semis and sponge titanium far exceeds the actual production capacity, pushing up the prices of the products in the market. Statistics show that sponge titanium rose to RMB 200.0000 a tonne from RMB 60.000 a tonne in early 2004.
