African Swine Fever spreads to new area in Germany

African Swine Fever (ASF) spread further west in Germany this week as a case of the disease was detected in the district of Meissen, northwest of Dresden in the state of Saxony. Without giving further details, the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) confirmed on 13 October that a young wild boar had tested positive for the disease. Although this is not the first case in Saxony, the affected area lies beyond the state’s existing restriction zones, which are centered on Gorlitz, close to the Polish border.
