Humane Society sues Smithfield Foods for gestation crate claims

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) sued Smithfield Foods Monday (October 18) for misleading consumers over the way female pigs are housed. HSUS is targeting the world’s largest pork producer for allegedly misleading customers after the company said it had moved away from using gestation crates but appears to have simply reduced the amount of time the pigs stay in the crates.
