Defra unveils ‘lump sum’ farm payment to drive early retirement in England

Farmers in England will be entitled to take their outstanding entitlements to payments under the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) as a lump sum from 2022 onwards, under new proposals set out on Wednesday (19 May) by the UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
