While farm bill safety net programs like federal crop insurance are vital tools for farmers reckoning with a tough farm economy and generally work well, stakeholders told members of the House Ag General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee they would welcome tweaks to the safety net and the development of a standing disaster relief program—provided they do not undermine existing programs.
