Russian coal prices recover despite lack of sales

Rising demand and the launch of a number of new tenders from large utilities supported high-grade Russian coal prices in Asia-Pacific this week. Spot prices for NAR 6,000 kcal/kg fob Vostochny coal increased by 98￠/t on the week to $74.31/t, but buyers are unlikely to accept prices above $72/t fob, some market participants said. Russian NAR 5,500 kcal/kg prices rose by $3.08/t from the previous week to $67.75/t fob Vostochny. Prices for low-ash Russian coal for South Korean and Taiwanese buyers were unchanged at around $67-68/t fob, but the price of the same grades of coal for Chinese customers rose by $1-2/t to $64-65/t fob, a trader said.
