Russian coal prices fall sharply

Prices for Russian high-grade coal into Asia-Pacific fell to their lowest level since late September 2016. Prices may soften further in the coming weeks on increased competition for new tenders in the region. Spot prices for NAR 6,000 kcal/kg fob Vostochny coal fell by $6.33/t on the week to $74.84/t. Some large coal suppli- ers sold Russian cargoes at around $71.50-75.00/t fob at the end of March, but smaller exporters were reluctant to sell and kept offers unchanged at $80/t or slightly higher, market participants said.
