Physiological synchrony in response to affective stimuli

Physiological synchrony between individuals is a ubiquitous process underlying human interactions. Yet, evidence remains scarce regarding the relation between this phenomenon and emotional convergence. Here, we take advantage of a classical method in brain research to develop a new approach of synchrony in affective science. Using a comprehensive set of autonomic signals, we test the relation between synchrony and affective context in the absence of co-presence. Virtual pairs of single participants showed significant variations of physiological synchrony that were consistent with the affective characteristics of the stimuli.
