Medical experts have established that close contact with a pet can help students and others facing stress and cognitive challenges. But even a robotic version of a furry animal can have a positive effect, according to a new student. A team of researchers from Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing have found that contact with a robotic cat have helped improve mood, behavior and cognition in older adults with mild to moderate dementia. Patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease or related dementias often experience depression, anxiety or aggressive tendencies. Most treatment involves medication that can cause negative side effects.
