Primary signet-ring cell carcinoma of the ampulla of vater: A case report with an immunohistochemical study

Primary signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare; only less than 20 cases have been reported in the literature. All are case reports, and there have been no immunohistochemical studies.A 74-year-old woman presented with jaundice and abdominal pain. Blood laboratory test revealed an increase of bilirubin (5.77mg/dL), alkaline phosphatase (3399 IU/mL), amylase (245IU/L), and liver and bile ducts enzymes (alanine aminotranferease, 87 IU/L; aspartate aminotransferase, 93 IU/L; LDH, 312 IU/L; y glutamate pyruvate transaminase, 125 IU/L). Tumor markers were also elevated (carci-noembryonic antigen (CEA) 953ng/mL and carcinoma antigen (CA)19-9, 781951 U/mL)
