NUCLEAR ENERGY: Greens heckle fusion cost explosion

The Greens are calling for the EU's financing of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Project (ITER) to be scrapped. With the member states failing, at the 25-26 May Competitiveness Council, to reach a conclusion on further EU financing for the project, the Greens want monies spent on fusion research to be redirected towards renewables and energy efficiency. Stopping today is, according to the Greens, the least expensive solution. The financially strapped ITER met, on 17 June, to decide on further financing.
