MN ALLOYS MARKET FORECAST

Global demand for Mn alloys is expected to rise by 33% over the next ten years to 15.3?million t. China will lower consumption by 2% over the forecast period due to slowdown in steel production growth in the medium term and slightly lower output in 2022?2027. In the rest of the world Mn alloys demand will increase by 67% to 9.7 million t. China will fully meet its domestic demand for alloys, so local steelmakers are not ex? pected to boost imports from other countries. Following a detailed review of projects to be launched and our estimation of required capacities, we can roughly divide the ten-year forecast period into two stages: - the newly launched mills will reach their designed capacity in 2018, so the global pro? duction of Mn alloys (excluding China) will post a rather moderate increase in 2019?2020; - returns on ferroalloys sales will start increasing again from 2021, thereby encouraging investors to pour money into new projects.
