Our industry is rightly proud of being able to innovate, especially where it's driven by cost pressures and demanding clients. But, do we innovate enough when it comes to the design of our streets? Designers have a great deal of information to draw upon, be it regulations, standards or guidance, but the amount of information is overwhelming and can be conflicting. It is no wonder that people carry on with the practices that they are most familiar with because it feels safer to remain within one's comfort zone.
