Making a list and checking it twice

Planning for whatever the winter brings is essential for all highway authorities. Over the past 10 years, we have experienced snow events that have tested our planning and contractual arrangements. All of the resulting learning and good practice has been included in the updated planning chapter of the NWSRG Practical Guide. The planning section helps authorities review their policies and practices and provides a useful checklist of key tasks, such as ensuring that service levels have been defined, effective management and decision-making systems are in place, sufficient resources are available and all relevant staff are aware of and familiar with their roles and responsibilities.
