Tarmac held onto the top spot in the latest annual contract leagues table despite a quiet quarter across the sector for contract awards. The tables, produced exclusively for Highways by building information specialist Glenigan, show that Tarmac had a relatively slow period in the three months to September 2021. The group picked up nearly ￡50m worth of work, boosted mainly by subsidiary Alun Griffiths being confirmed as the contractor on a ￡40m scheme to dual a stretch of the A40 between Llanddewi Velfrey and Penblewin in Dyfed. Tarmac itself landed places on frameworks including a ￡35m agreement with Wiltshire County Council alongside another 29 contractors and the main role on a ￡30m surfacing deal with the local authority in the Vale of Glamorgan but only ran in sixth in the quarterly top 20.
