￡335m Area 9 contract procurement begins

Highways England has kick-started procurement for a ￡335m eight-year contract covering highways maintenance in the West Midlands. As Highways went to press, an online tender launch event is being staged on 11 June and a formal notice inviting expressions of interest will be published later this month. Area 9 covers the largest geographic area of Highways England's 14 term maintenance deals and the winning contractor will be responsible for maintenance and response work in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire. Kier has been responsible for the Area 9 contract since 2014 and won a three-year extension in July 2018. This deal expires next year.
