The Utility of Outcome Monitoring in Determining Competence: A Rejoinder

In this rejoinder, the authors address several issues raised by Commentary (Blinded) regarding (a) the definition and determination of professional competence, (b) the utility of ROM and multicultural competence, and (c) the interpretation and application of ROM data in determining clinical effectiveness and competence. The authors challenge the longstanding notion that boundaries of competence should be determined based on therapists' previous training and clinical experience and echo previous calls for competence and clinical effectiveness in professional psychology to encompass ROM data. Additionally, we echo several important limitations and clinical considerations offered by Commentary (Blinded) for the utility of ROM data in determining boundaries of competence.
