Intellectual property and e-commerce

Law 6769/2016 functions as Turkey's cornerstone law protecting intellectual-property rights (IPR). With effect from 2017, the new statute consolidates and replaces a series of individual laws, executive decrees and regulations enacted in 1995 to comply with the provisions of the EU's Customs Union (implemented in 1995) and distance the country from its status as one of the world's worst IPR infringers. In 2008 Turkey joined the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Copyright Treaty. This and other global initiatives promote additional protections.
