Present and Potential of Glass Microprocessing by a Femtosecond Laser

摘要

Femtosecond laser is a perfect laser source for glass micro processing when highest accuracy and smallest structure size are required due to the ultrashort interaction time and the high peak power. Femtosecond laser is also a powerful tool to make 3-dimensional microscopic modifications in glasses due to spatially localized femtosecond laser-induced multiphoton reactions. We review recent research advancement in the femtosecond laser-induced microstructures and novel optical functions of glasses. We demonstrated space-selective manipulation of valence state of active ions, precipitation and control of metal nanoparticles inside glasses by an 800nm femtosecond laser. At last, we give our opinions on the probable development of glass micro-processing by the femtosecond laser in the near future.
