French military commitment in Afghanistan has resulted in a gradual realisation that the nature of combat and the limits of the conventional use of armed force have chan-ged. For the land forces, the resulting conceptual and doctrinal updating has led to prag-matic changes in structures and resources. However, in the author's opinion, the efforts and sacrifices made have not been reflected in public opinion.
