The Russian government has given preliminary approval to the ratification of an agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization to establish a WIPO office in Russia, a move that is expected to boost the development of the system of intellectual property rights protection domestically. The Government Commission on Legislative Activity approved the draft law on Jan. 21. The legislation is based on an agreement struck with WIPO in Geneva in April 2013, which set out the goals and function of the office and the privileges and immunities of staff while in Russia.
