Reports from Huazhong University of Science and Technology Advance Knowledge in Long QT Syndrome (Long QT syndrome with potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 2 gene mutation mimicking refractory epilepsy: case report)
2021 SEP 21 (NewsRx) - By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Disease Prevention Daily - A new study on long QT syndrome is now available. According to news reporting out of Huazhong University of Science and Technology by NewsRx editors, research stated, "Epileptic seizures can be difficult to distinguish from other etiologies that cause cerebral hypoxia, especially cardiac diseases." Funders for this research include National Natural Science Foundation of China; China association against epilepsy fund for epilepsy research-UCB fund; National Key R&D Program of China; Grants for returned overseas doctors of Tongji Hospital. Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Huazhong University of Science and Technology: "Long QT syndrome (LQTS), especially LQTS type 2 (LQT2), frequently masquerades as seizures because of the transient cerebral hypoxia caused by ventricular arrhythmia. The high rate of sudden death in LQTS highlights the importance of accurate and early diagnosis; correct diagnosis of LQTS also prevents inappropriate treatment with anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs).
