Understanding family experiences of care: more evidence that it makes a difference.

There is growing, but inconsistent evidence, that patients' and families' experiences of receiving care are associated with subsequent health outcomes and health care use. In this issue of the Archives, Raphael et al report new evidence that some, but not all, aspects of parents' reported quality of care are associated with reduced nonurgent emergency department (ED) visits and some hospitalizations among children with special health care needs (CSHCN).
