THE EU is extending controls over Sudan dyes to include imports of curcuma and virgin palm oil as well as chilli and chilli products, in the wake of the UK's February Sudan-1 crisis. The illegal use of Sudan-1, a carcinogenic dye that can cause cancer if consumed in large amounts, sparked the UK's largest-ever food recall after it was found in contaminated chilli products (FOODNEWS passim).
