ALERT TO DANGER

A violent and audacious attack on the cruise liner Seabourn Spirit (pictured above) in November last year has again highlighted the need for ships to be alert to stay clear of danger, or be prepared to take quick avoiding action. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) is so concerned about increased problems off Somalia (citing 25 attacks in the eight months between last March and November, compared to only two reported attacks for the whole of the previous year) that ships are advised to stay at least 150 miles offshore.
