The operation to relieve the flooded city of New Orleans following Katrina could go down in history as one of the most important uses of air power to relieve human suffering since the 1948-49 Berlin Airlift. Hundreds of aircraft flew into the city's airport and emergency landing grounds, while others crisscrossed the skies to coordinate the enormous relief effort Among them were two very special aircraft-a P-3 Orion Long Ranger Tracker (LRT) patrol aircraft operated by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and a US Army EUH-60 A2C2S command post helicopter (see pages 24-26).
