"Home Zones have tremendous potential to transform the quality of life in our local communities". Few would disagree with these words by transport minister David Jamieson, but a brief look at three of the pilot schemes shows that the success of a home zone depends on continuing the dialogue with the residents long after the contractors have moved on. One of the UK's first home zones is Manchester's Northmoor estate, managed by the Manchester Methodist Housing Association. "We feel we've given the streets back to the people who live there" says James McMillan, the association's Regeneration Project Manager. "Northmoor is again becoming a lively, safe and vibrant area."
