Solutions to bridges of size

A £1.9 million project to install 750-metres of new parapet over bridges on the M4/M5 Almondsbury intersection near Bristol, called for a quick and innovative solution. The Sistema team were called in to install their SteelGard barriers - beginning work in early November and successfully completing the job in about ten days. Sistema director, Jason Ferro, said the barrier's installation system -designed to give quick results and reduced costs - had made it ideal for the job, which was complicated by a very tight curvature in some areas. The lightweight Sistema parapets snapped into place simply and quickly over the old obsolete 1970s barriers. And the lightweight design (at about 160kg per metre) meant there was little structural change needed on the bridge.
