If all the Amey glitters were loaded to full capacity they could spread salt three metres wide at 10 grams per square metre around the world and still have enough left for a further 4,000 miles. That's a lot of salt and a lot of miles and with the winter of 2005/06 producing some of the coldest winter temperatures on record, the Amey gritters have been out in full force from Scotland down to Cumbria, Hertfordshire and the West Country.
