Linear drainage channels pass unnoticed by most users of our highways but, on bridges, they perform two essential roles. The first is to provide a route for surface water to drain quickly and safely from the road surface. The second is to act as a kerb to ensure that vehicles that wander from their correct road positioning are deflected back into the carriageway. In view of these important safety functions, it's not surprising that performance of linear drainage channels is covered by the European Standard (EN 1433} and that channels used in Europe, including the UK, are required to carry the CE mark to show that they have been declared as conforming to the requirements of the Construction Products Directive (CPD).
