One of the most important trends which stand out for the 21. century is the miniaturizing of mechanical, electrical and electronic components. Small but powerful motors like the DC motor introduced in this paper open up new possibilities of automation in all fields. Another branch of industry which also profits by the compact DC motor is the medical technology as it is shown by an application in cardiac surgery presented here.
