SEG is giving the Foundation US$1 million in matching funds. No funds are transferred until there is a gift from a donor to match. There are other conditions. The gift to be matched must be at least US$5000 and not more than US$50 000. It must come from an individual rather than a company. It can be spread over five years but it won't be matched until money is received. With some discussion, it was decided that the matched gifts can be directed to sponsored or "pass through" projects (spent in the same year as donated) as well as endowed projects. All of our past efforts in the Foundation have been to grow the "corpus"—i.e., the principle, and spend only the income from that corpus. I hope that most people considering a donation will opt for an endowment. Back during the early days of the Foundation, the theme was "Endowing the Future." I liked that slogan back then and I like it today.
