Highways industry can help with Big Society

Since coming to power David Cameron has been promoting the Big Society. So what does the term mean to us within the highways industry and how do we fit into such a society? Lets' begin by looking at one of the Nations best examples - the National Trust. Why the NT? Well it is run by the people for the people maintaining and preserving our national assets for the benefit of all and does an excellent job. It has approximately 3.8 million members plus volunteers, tenants, partners and benefactors all working to improve conservation and environmental performance whilst investing in those people. Truly outstanding considering it is independent and receives no direct state grants.
