MSC eyes majority stake in Italian airline

MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Co is the latest shipowner to eye the aviation sector. The Geneva-headquartered group, which controls the world's largest containership fleet and also operates a major cruise line, has expressed interest in acquiring a majority stake in the state-owned airline ITA Airways. In a statement late on Monday, MSC said it "aims to create a partnership with the Italian Government and Lufthansa as the project's industrial partner".
