Training at the heart of decarbonisation's safety success

TRAINING will be key to the success of shipping's decarbonisation drive. Without it, the consequences could be catastrophic. Given that multiple fuels are still being tested and developed, challenges remain with how new education programmes can be rolled out. Seafarers need to know how to react in the event of an incident, be it a fire, explosion or fuel leakage. They also need to understand how to handle these fuels safely and how to navigate new digital tools. Several industry experts have called for information to be shared from trials taking place in order to better understand the safety risks associated with new fuels and technologies that will enter the industry in the coming years.
