UK urged to scrap pay freeze for nuclear transport seafarers

SEAFARERS working for Pacific Nuclear Transport deserve a salary increase despite the UK's public sector pay freeze, the RMT ratings union says. The company, which is part of a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, specialises in the movement of nuclear waste to and from reprocessing facilities in Cumbria, with a fleet of three purpose-built vessels. It has been operating for more than 45 years between Europe and Japan and has the most experienced nuclear transport crews in the world, according to its website. It says each crew member has more than 20 years of experience on average with the company.
