Wartsila reports surge in orders as customers seek fuel flexibility

WARTSILA, the Helsinki-headquartered marine and energy technology business, reported robust full-year results while warning that the prevailing market conditions make the outlook for 2022 "uncertain". New orders, net sales, operating result, and cash flow were strongly positive, with the order intake for 2021 up 32% at €5.7bn ($6.3bn) compared with €4.4bn in 2020, and operating profit up to €314m from €234m. The order intake for October to December rose 92% to €2.2bn. Comparable operating profit rose 53% to €158m on sales of €1.6bn, an increase of 31%, the company said in a statement.
