Forecasts from the Department of Transport say that by 2040 road traffic is forecast to be 46% higher than in 2010 - and that would imply an increase in congestion of around 114%. * And with congestion already costing the economy more than ￡4.3bn a year**, keeping the country on the move has become a challenge that can no longer be ignored. While the Government is earmarking significant investment on initiatives including road widening schemes and hard shoulder running designed to ease the pressure, constraints on public funding make it imperative that the industry finds its own way to deal with the issue.
