A major infrastructure project to widen the A453 in Nottinghamshire has included the installation of nearly 10,000 metres of new drainage. David Smoker from ACO Water Management discusses this project in more detail. Carrying up to 30,000 vehicles per day, the single-carriageway road that runs between the M1 at Junction 24 and Nottingham had become increasingly congested. The road also had a poor accident record and had significant maintenance issues. As such, dualling and widening this section on the route, at a cost of approximately ￡150 million, was a top priority for the region. This involved dualling the rural section, measuring 5.5 miles, and widening the urban section of 1.5 miles. The upgraded road has been named Remembrance Way to honour British service personnel killed in Afghanistan.
