Effects of Organic Manures Inoculated with Anabaena Azollae and Black Gram Varieties on the Chemical Properties of the Soil and Root Nodulation

An experiment was conducted to investigate effects of organic manure (coir waste and cow dung) with an anabaena azollae strain ML-2 on two black gram varieties (ADT-3 & ADT-5). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design of a spilt plot fashion in three replications with the varieties of black gram on the main plots while the organic manure and a control (non-treatment) plot constituted the subplots. The organic manure application showed high yield of black gram. There was significant difference in the number of nodules among the black gram varieties. ADT-5 variety recorded the highest mean number of nodules (15.4) which was significantly different from the other varieties. It is recommended that ADT-5 should be used for cultivation of black gram using coir waste when compared with cow dung manure.
