Rapeseed mustard is one of the important oil seed crop of India. It accounts for about 30% of total production of edible oil in the country. DNA based molecular marker RAPD was used for the study of DNA polymorphism in Brassica juncea associated with Alternaria blight, a destructive disease of different locations of Northern India. . But there is no effective resistant germplasm is available towards this disease. Keeping these views in mind, the major objective of the present investigation was the analysis of genetic diversity among 20 varieties of Brassica juncea using RAPD-PCR. A total of 16 primers out of 20 RAPD primers were selected. Amplification of genomic DNA of 20 genotypes using RAPD fingerprinting, yielded 112 fragments that scored 110 polymorphic out of 112 fragments, with an average of 6.88 polymorphic fragments per primer. Number of amplified fragments ranged from 2 (P-94) to 10 (P-72. P-96. P-114) and varied in size from 100 bp to 5100 bp. These results provide us genetic variability between different accessions of Indian mustard which could utilized for further improvement of rapeseed-mustard.
