Russian Point Defense SAMs

Russia currently manufactures a wide range of air defense missiles for tactical air defense of mobile army formations. This report focuses on several systems that are currently being offered for export. The Strela 10 (SA-13 Gopher) is a short-range system roughly comparable to the US Army Chaparral; it is no longer in production but an upgrade is being proposed. The Tor (SA-15 Gauntlet) is a medium range system similar in role to the Roland or Crotale. The Buk-IM system, also called Gang in its export version (SA-11 Gadfly), the longest ranged of these three systems, somewhat similar to the I-Hawk in performance, but on a fully mobile launcher vehicle. The Ural (SA-17 Grizzly) is an upgraded version of the SA-11 Gadfly.
