Surface-to-Surface Missile Digest

This digest provides a compilation of short reports on two categories of surface-to-surface missiles: legacy systems which may still be in service but are no longer in production, and future programs which are not COV-ered in a full report. The US Navy Office of Naval Research funded a technology demonstration by Titan International Systems in May 2002 for a low cost cruise missile. The Affordable Weapon is designed to cost about $40-60k. tests were conducted with a low cost cruise missile capable of carrying a 200 lb warhead for up to four hours at ranges up to a few hundred miles. The Navy has funded the manufacture of 100 "Spiral Zero" ver- sions of the missile for further trials in 2004 for further trials.
