In 2008, the US Air Force began discussing its MQ-X Next Generation UAS, intended as an eventual replacement for the MQ-1 Predator/MQ-9 Reaper. The air vehicle is expected to be jet-powered with some low-observables features. General Atomics has already flown a company-funded Predator derivative, the Avenger (Predator C) and Boeing displayed illustrations of their conception of MQ-X at the 2009 Paris Air Show. A competition for the SDD contract was expected around 2012 but in 2012 the program was shelved due to budget issues.
