Susceptibility to antimicrobials of bacteria belonging to nocardia genus and treatment of nocardiosis

Bacteria belonging to Nocardia genus induced a localized or disseminated granulomatous, pusforming infection, called nocardiosis. The incidence of this pathology increased during the last ten years. Due to the nature, the severity of these infections and the affected patients, an adapted and effective treatment is crucial. The lack of animal models and clinical trials make difficult the choice and the optimization of therapeutic scheme. In this review we described the methods to estimatein vitro antimicrobial susceptibility of Nocardia strains, taking into account the difficulties to obtain these data, and the treatmen of choice for nocardiosis.
