The RBS-70 Rayrider is a laser-beam riding air defense missile produced by Sweden's Bofors for the Swedish army and for export. Designed as a portable ground-launched anti-aircraft weapon, the RBS-70 can also be vehicle-mounted, and has been adapted for use on naval vessels. The RBS-90 is a night-capable version of the RBS-70 missile system with a new launcher configuration, but using the same missile. The RBS-90 was first deployed in the Swedish army in 1992. Bofors has produced more than 17,000 RBS-70 missiles and 1,000 fire units for Sweden and at least 18 export clients. In 2002, production shifted to the upgraded Bolide missile, which is compatible with the RBS-70 and RBS-90 launchers. Saab is now fo- cusing on the RBS 70 NG (New Generation) with a substantially improved launcher.
