Throughout the second half of January and most of February, the rouble was under pressure from weaker oil and gas demand in Asia due to the coronavirus outbreak, the new government focusing on spending, soften? ing monetary policy of the Bank of Russia, record low sales of Russian gas to Europe, new developments in the Yukos compensation case and new sanctions against Rosneft Trading. The currency direction changed notably compared to the middle of the previous month.
