AGM-158C Long-Range Antiship Missile (LRASM)

DARPA began funding a Long-Range Antiship Missile (LRASM) study in 2009 as a possible successor to the Harpoon antiship missile. Lockheed Martin won the initial development contracts, examining a sub-sonic alternative based on the AGM-158 JASSM, and a supersonic type. This program transitioned in 2013 into a US Navy program, called OASuW (Offensive Anti-Surface Warfare Weapon) with an aim to field the Increment 1 version of the missile as early as 2018. The initial version is in the air-launched configuration with both the US Navy and US Air Force procuring the type. Given the compressed nature of the schedule, the OASuW (Increment I) is a derivative of the JASSM missile. The Navy plans to fund 115 missiles in FY17-FY21 and the Air Force to fund 46 missiles in FY17-19. Early Operational Capability on the B-1B bomber was reached in December 2018 with plans to begin deploying the missile on the F/A-18 in 2019.
